Good Friends Are Good For You - 3 Ways To Connect On International Day of Friendship

That magical elixir of health, the key to well-being and happiness that we’re all searching for seems to be moving further from our reach; as we grapple with the second wave of a global pandemic.   Instead of looking to the future with anticipation, many of us are stuck; struck by the fear and anxiety of uncertainty that is playing havoc with our physical and mental health.

The effects of stress, fear and anxiety on the human body are well documented – in short, they work against us, to lower our immune system.  Now, I could recommend an apple a day but, I’m going to suggest you phone a friend instead.   Why?  because the endorphins released when you laugh and share a memory will leave you smiling … And smiling, the precursor to all-round happiness, is a natural immune booster.

As we struggle to understand the changes that are happening in our world, the very real loneliness and loss, our friends are good medicine and for some, they can be the best medicine.  Your friends have the ability to prescribe some of nature’s most powerful healers; love, acceptance and an open heart.  For many of us, it’s just what the doctor ordered.

I’m lucky I get to spend every single day with my best friend, my wife, Alka.  For nearly 50 years, she’s been my lover, my wife and the mother to our two sons.  A graduate of with a Doctorate in Medicine, she keeps me on my toes – and it’s her support that has been instrumental in influencing the way I think about the impact of nature on health and wellness.

As we celebrate International Day of Friendship, this Thursday July 30th how will you celebrate your friends?

Today is a perfect day to reconnect with an old friend or recognise your own best friend.  A life without friends, without friendship would be unthinkable, so let’s celebrate everything that friendship means - make an effort to connect by:

1. Schedule a Group Dinner Video Chat

Invite your closest friends for a group chat over dinner.

Select an easy recipe and share it ahead of time.

Meet on the Video chat and cook your meal together.

Enjoy a virtual dinner together!

2. Phone Call

Not everyone is on the internet or your best friends may simply not like video chats – if that’s the case just pick up the phone and call to just say “Hello, how are you doing?” It tells people you are thinking of them without too much fuss.

3. Say Thank You

Acknowledge your friendships and thank your friends for being there for you.  Tell them you are here for them too! Remind each other of what your friendship really means!

Stay healthy and stay happy – check in with your friends regularly and if you notice the nasty stress and anxiety creeping in then, you know your ability to absorb antioxidants will be reduced.  Our Fontanella Super Antioxidant one a day supplement is packed with powerful antioxidants to help your body perform at its best and counteract the effects of stress and anxiety.  It contains pure Grape seed, a powerful free radical scavenger which also supports cardiovascular health and blood circulation and Bilberry, to combat visual fatigue and aid the proper functioning of the eye; while also improving night vision. The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. The charter aims to recognise the relevance and importance of friendship as a noble and valuable sentiment in the lives of human beings around the world.  (https://www.un.org/en/observances/friendship-day)
